This program concept is initiated by CommunityAID aimed at increasing youth efforts/involvement and to
clearly define roles for youth in local development activities. Often, much of the attentions given to
building local capacities are focused on adults, ignoring the visibility and activism of youth components in
community development efforts.
The development of a community is a dynamic process involving all segments of the locality, including the
often overlooked youth population. A key component to this process is establishing and maintaining
channels of interaction and communication among community youth groups, leadership, other
community grouping whose activities are more directed towards individualistic interest.
It is eminent the voice of youth/women be heard as a vital part of a decision process in an entire
community efforts to bring sustainable social change. This strategy is to strengthen the weaken structures
that deter youth from full participation thus, enhancing the human, social and economic resource of youth
at the community level as a direct door opener to harnessing as well as capitalizing on the youthful
potential to take up full participation in community development.
Community youth entrepreneurial support project is aimed at creating sustainable opportunity for youth
in communities to harness their economic strength through training and support. Communities are
endowed with economic potential in agro- processing, handicrafts production, tourism and technical skills.
Decentralization processes have over decades been cumbersome and subtle efficient for governments and
local authorities interventions thus, exposing the intrinsic need for youth full participation in
developmental, political, social and economic activities at community level.
This has been an inception project for CommunityAID since its initiation, it entails employing policies
strategies and approaches to harnessing the social and economic prospects as well as potential of women
and youth in communities.
